SUPPORT AGAINST MENTAL ILLNESS STIGMA
Published Nov 15, 2021
Mental health stigma is common in our society. This is a case in our society, as most people usually hide their mental state from their close relatives. This has resulted in death, marital strife, and losing family ties.
Most mental illnesses, such as depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, cerebral palsy, and bipolar disorder, are associated with stigma. This has resulted in people living with this disease delaying treatment, as there is no confidence in it. The stigma can come from family members, co-workers, friends, and society.
The effect of mental health stigma leads to non-understanding of what the victim goes through, unemployment, workplace discrimination, low self-esteem, shame, avoiding treatment and worsening symptoms.
In conclusion, we need people to be aware of the importance of supporting people living with mental health illnesses in our society. Are you to support this?
