The Active Citizen Fellowship returns after it was first launched on the 15th of June, 2021, with a fellow-up edition on the 7th of November, 2021. Candidates for the 3rd cohort of the fellowship have been announced following weeks of rigorous screening and selection.
No fewer than 720 entries were received across the federation, but only 213 candidates were eligible to be screened for the few spots. And only fifteen candidates have been selected for participation in this third cohort.
The Active Citizen Fellowship (ACF) is aimed to stimulate and train young people committed to improving democracy or the quality of life in their communities. The fellowship builds young peoples’ capacity in areas that make them stand out from the crowd and deepen their impact. The fellowship is organized by the Noble Missions for Change Initiative (NMI), and highly experienced professionals from Budgit Foundation, Nigeria Network of NGOs (NNNGO), Hope Behind Bars, and The Irede Foundation have supported it as resource persons.
Below are the initially selected candidates who will go through a rigorous four weeks of training, and only those who make it through this training phase will become Active Citizen Fellows:
Dieudonne Idam Eze: Dieudonné Idam Eze is the Afikpo North Local Government Coordinator of Young Men’s Network Against Sexual Gender Base Violence (A non-governmental organization). He’s the Initiator of ‘A home, A Net’ malaria and ‘Every Girl Deserves A Reusable Sanitary Pad’ campaign programs.
Pascal Nwoga: Pascal Nwoga is a Human Rights Activist, an Educator and Youth Worker. He is the founder of the African Youth Human Rights and Citizenship Development Initiative.
Grace Obi: Grace Obi is a social change maker that has empowered over 350 women and girls with high-income life skills for self-sustainability. She works as Executive Director for Women Assist Foundation, a social enterprise she founded where she advocates for gender equality and the rights of women and girls.
Zainab Nasir Ahmad: Zainab Nasir Ahmad is a gender activist, and she is the Executive Director of the Youth Society For Prevention of Infectious Disease and Social Vices(YOSPIS)
Sylvester Shakpande: Sylvester is a Social Impact Leader who is passionate about positive impact, community development and youth skills within and beyond his community.
He is the Deputy Executive Director of Movement Against Child Abuse and Neglect (MACAN): an initiative to curb child abuse and promote child’s rights within Nigeria.
Anthony Adejuwon: Anthony Adejuwon is a social accountability campaigner whose zeal for social change led him to found Urban Alert. This civic-tech initiative leverages technology in amplifying the voices of the people. With more than 50 volunteers in 30 Local Governments in Osun State, Anthony has led Urban Alert to impact over 17,500 people directly.”
Blessing Ewa: Blessing is a Public Health professional, youth advocate and SDG advocate. Ewa is also a corporate trainer, the National Coordinator for Young Advocates for a Sustainable and Inclusive Future, and the State Coordinator with the Nigerian Youth SDGs Network.
Debbie Msonter-Shagba: Debbie Msonter-Shagba is a legal practitioner with over seven years of experience. Debbie is the founder of DS Msonter-Shagba & Co., where she heads the probate team focusing on providing pro-bono legal services to families of deceased soldiers of the Nigerian army killed in action (KIA) in the war against terrorism and insurgency.
Oluwaseun Kolawole: Oluwaseun Kolawole is the Founder/Executive Director of Peace Shapers, a youth-led organization with the mission of raising resilient young people who value creative cooperation over violence for a just and inclusive society. She has been able to equip about 100 young people in Nigeria with peacebuilding and conflict resolution skills.
Clementina Oriaku: Clementina Oriaku is a Nutritionist-Dietitian and Public Health professional. I am the Executive Director and Founder of Initiative For Adequate Nutrition (IFAN). I am most passionate about providing increased access to safe and nutritious food for vulnerable populations. I value excellence, integrity, passion and accountability.
Livinus Abur: Abur Livinus is the Founder of the Aburson Foundation, a foundation that cares for children’s educational needs in the IDP camps in Benue State. He is an alumnus of the Young African Leaders Initiative Regional leadership Centre (RLC) Accra, Ghana. He has volunteered as a coordinator Niger state on the Election observation mission.
Ifeoluwa Alabi: Ifeoluwa Alabi has over seven (7) years of experience in Project management and has worked across various sectors- Education, Media, Health, Agriculture and Technology. She is currently a project lead at the Global Emerging Pathogens Treatment Consortium. An initiative that provides expertise in the area of One Health and Biosecurity.
Justice Eyo: Eyo is a teacher, broadcaster, and entrepreneur. He has served as a radio presenter, led a teacher-centred project for LEAP Africa, been an African Liberty Writing Fellow, YALI Emerging Leaders Program Fellow and African ChangeMakers Initiative Fellow.
Ponmile Ogunjemite: Ponmile Ogunjemite is passionate about the Nigerian Healthcare System and works toward abridging healthcare inequalities through effective policies, technology, and financing. She is the founder of Pioneer Medical Initiative, where she leads her team in providing care to over 2,500 people in rural communities and urban slums.
Enitan Oluwa: Enitan is a Youth Champion for the SDGs, an astute volunteer with over a decade of experience with non-profit organizations focused on assisting the needy. She is the founder of Natineee Empowerment for Sustainable Impact Initiative ( NESII), which focuses on Sexual Reproductive Health, Gender and Disability Rights.
Raymond Enobakhare: Raymond Enobakhare is an optometrist graduate from the University of Benin, Edo State. He hails from Egor local government area of Edo State.
